In response to a followup letter to DHSS and DOE by Senators McBride and Sturgeon, and Representatives Williams and Minor-Brown about the ongoing lack of a clear, cohesive, and comprehensive response to the issue of lead in the drinking water in public schools, Secretaries Holodick and Magarik, committed to “ensure free and accessible screening and testing are available to families”, retesting in schools, and pursuit of funding to address this problem. There was no timeline associated with these commitments.
Lead poisoning is preventable. There are no safe levels of exposure to lead and there are no safe levels of lead in children’s blood.
